EVERY DROP, A DIRECTION
Klonas Winery is located in the heart of the Naoussa PDO zone, in the Palaiokalia area, and is a family-run boutique winery. The first vines were planted at the end of the last century by grandfather Takis Klonas. From the very first harvests, an aromatic complexity in the grapes stood out. This inspired grandfather to start efforts that led to the first bottling.Today, the winery continues cultivating various red and white varieties, producing approximately 60,000 bottles annually. Its mission is to highlight the untapped richness of the indigenous varieties, Xinomavro and Preknadi, and to position Naoussa prominently on both the Greek and global wine map.
THE WINERY
The winery is based in two buildings. The old building is where it all began. It was there that the family’s grandfather made his first attempts. Today, the space is still used for production, equipped with modern facilities and infrastructure for the harvest. The second building was completed in 2023, following the latest expansion. In its basement lies the cellar, with controlled temperature and humidity conditions, where the wines mature in oak barrels. Above it are the production areas with fermentation tanks and winemakers, while on the top floor there is a tasting room overlooking the vineyard.
VINEYARDS
Our vineyards grow in the heart of Naoussa, at an altitude of 250–300 meters. The microclimate of the area, with Vermio Mountain shielding from cold winds, provides ideal conditions for the slow and balanced ripening of the grapes.
HARVEST
Harvesting is done manually, so that each grape is carefully picked without damage. The harvest begins when the grapes reach optimal ripeness — based not only on sugar levels but also on acidity and aromas. Transport to the winery is immediate, at low temperatures, to preserve the freshness and character of the raw material.
WINEMAKING
At the winery, the process is adjusted according to the grape variety and the style of the wine.
White and rosé wines ferment at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks to preserve their aromatic character. For red wines, special vinifiers are used to extract color and tannins from the skins. Everything is done with constant monitoring to keep the wine’s character vibrant.
AGING
The cellar is located in the basement of the new building and maintains a constant temperature of 15°C and humidity of 70%.
Red wines age in oak barrels, where they develop their complexity and gain balance. The aging time varies depending on the variety and style, while each barrel is monitored individually until the final selection for bottling.
CELLAR
WINE MAKING
In the cellar, temperature and humidity remain stable throughout the year, creating the ideal conditions for the maturation of our wines. The wines age in oak barrels of various types depending on the grape variety and the profile we want to highlight. During the aging process, the wine interacts with the wood, gaining aromatic complexity, greater body, and balance. The goal is always the same: to showcase the character of each variety and give the wine the opportunity to develop naturally. Aging is one of the most important stages of our production. It is done with respect, without haste, and with the conviction that every wine needs its time to reach where it deserves.
